The Walker Art Center and 89.3 the Current’s Rock the Garden kicked off summer in the Twin Cities in style on Saturday afternoon with a full day of live music. This year’s festival took place at a temporary new venue, Boom Island Park, as the Walker’s Sculpture Garden undergoes construction—leading many attendees to dub it “Rock the Island.” Live acts included festival favorite the Flaming Lips, on-the-verge underground hip hop act Chance the Rapper, singer-songwriter M. Ward, folk act Nathaniel Rateliff and the Night Sweats, up-and-coming punk band Plague Vendor, and local darlings Poliça, Hippo Campus, and GRRRL PRTY (in what would be their last-ever show).
