There’s new energy at Midtown Global Market, and it comes in the form of two highly anticipated restaurant openings this week.

On March 20 and 21, the beloved Lake Street destination will celebrate the arrivals of Trio Plant-Based and 7 Spices—two concepts rooted in culture, community, and bold flavor.

Trio Plant-Based brings a powerful story and a loyal following. Founded by Louis Hunter, the restaurant has become a staple for vegan soul food in Minneapolis, serving comforting, plant-based takes on classics like mac and cheese, collard greens, and barbecue jackfruit. Since opening, Trio has stood for more than just food—it’s a space grounded in resilience, healing, and community connection.

The following day, 7 Spices will makes its Midtown debut. Led by Sadiaa Hassan, the Somali restaurant blends tradition and family, with recipes shaped by years of experience and a deep connection to heritage. The opening also coincides with the end of Ramadan, adding a meaningful layer to what’s sure to be a vibrant, community-centered celebration.
