Preview the New Eastside Restaurant Opening This Month

Fans of Barrio, Bar La Grassa and Burch Steak & Pizza can rejoice—the owner of these award-winning restaurants is adding one to the list. Ryan Burnet’s brand new restaurant, Eastside, is set to open Sept. 29.

The eatery was originally set to open in August, and although it was finished, Burnet said they were still waiting on a certificate of occupancy from the apartment complex. He said it was a good problem to have, however, because it gave them more time to prepare for the opening.

“We got a date and there’s no going back now,” Burnet said.

Eastside will make its debut in the new Latitude 45 apartment building, located on Third and Washington avenues in downtown Minneapolis. The location serves its purpose as a neighborhood destination by catering to the countless offices and condos in the surrounding area.

Burnet said there is no particular theme to the restaurant; he is simply looking at the neighborhood, and creating dishes at prices that appeal to those who would visit more than once a week. The menu intends to host a lot of variety, such as cold and raw dishes, pulled pork flatbread, and plates like fried chicken on a pretzel bun, to give people a reason to keep coming back.

The opening of Eastside is also a homecoming event for Remy Pettus, who was appointed Executive Chef of the restaurant. After recently cooking in Healdsburg, Calif., and Moto Restaurant in Chicago, Pettus is returning to his hometown to cook.

Burnet added with Pettus’ relationship to the area and his direction and philosophy with the menu, his appointment of Executive Chef was serendipitous.

Eastside has also teamed up with Tattersall Distilling Company, which opened in July, to bring a craft cocktail menu to customers. Burnet said he worked with Dan Oskey, Chief Operator at Tattersall, to design the drink menu. The bartenders at Eastside will also be trained at Tattersall.
