Wellness is more than just a trend—it’s a priority for many, as it should be! Yet with so much advice out there, from viral TikTok hacks to detailed scientific research, finding the right option can be daunting. Fortunately, Minnesota offers a variety of wellness experiences to help you on your journey. Here’s a guide to some standout opportunities around the state.

Watershed Spa (Minneapolis)

Located in the historic Switch House near the Mississippi River and St. Anthony Main, Watershed Spa offers a comprehensive wellness experience. Guests can enjoy a 2.5-hour pass to the baths, including access to a sauna, steam room, cold plunge, and warm pool. A salt room will be added by mid-Autumn. Beyond the baths, Watershed offers sound baths, private soaking tubs, group meditation sessions, yoga therapy, and various spa treatments like acupuncture, reiki, massage, and facials. Their Vichy treatment, a rare offering in the U.S., includes a cold therapy option for a unique hydrotherapy experience. Whether visiting alone or with friends, Watershed provides an ideal environment for relaxation and rejuvenation.

Note: Starting mid-September, Watershed will extend its hours to 9:30 a.m.-10:30 p.m., seven days a week.

Maji ya Chai Land Sanctuary (Two Harbors)

This 40-acre nature retreat is devoted to providing a restorative space for healing, relaxation, and connection with nature, specifically for Black, Indigenous, and communities of color. Although still under development, the sanctuary currently offers day-long wellness events and programs, including yoga, meditation, bird watching, and story circles. A newly added yurt enhances the site, and cabins are planned to accommodate longer stays.

Note: Volunteering is a great way to explore and support this emerging wellness resource.

Forest Bathing – Silvae Spiritus (Finlayson)

Rooted in Japanese tradition, forest bathing is an excellent way to counter the stresses of tech-centric life. This practice involves immersing yourself in the forest to promote relaxation and well-being, with benefits like lower blood pressure and enhanced immune function. While this can be practiced throughout Minnesota, Silvae Spiritus Northwoods Nature Retreat in Finlayson offers guided “forest therapy” walks that conclude with a community sauna session. Whether you’re seasoned or new to the practice this retreat offers an ideal setting to experience wonderful benefits.

Note: Many state parks also host forest bathing meetups.

Cuyuna Cove (Crosby)

Community is often a key part of wellness. Cuyuna Cove offers simple, charming accommodations and a range of activities, from hiking, mountain biking, and paddleboarding in the summer to Nordic skiing, ice fishing, and fat-tire cycling in the winter. Gather around a shared firepit for storytelling and laughter, which boosts endorphin release, improves lung function, and enhances overall well-being.

Sweetbriar Ridge Geodesic Dome (Pine City)

Located just an hour north of the metro, Sweetbriar Ridge offers a nature retreat with a “glamping” twist. Visitors stay in fully equipped geodesic domes, providing a comfortable and immersive outdoor experience without the need for traditional camping gear. It’s an excellent choice for those looking to connect with nature in a unique and accessible way.
