Mall of America announced today that it will open retail stores to customers on Monday, June 1. In their press release, the Mall says “this announcement is promising news, not just for Mall of America, but for our entire retail community.”

After Governor Walz’s announcement Wednesday to end Minnesota’s Stay at Home Order on May 18, more businesses and retailers will be allowed to open. Mall of America will use the coming weeks to give retailers a chance to rehire and train workers and to implement new safety measures such as “social distancing signage, redirecting foot traffic (specific doors for entering and exiting), even more enhanced cleaning procedures, modified operating hours, limiting to 50 percent capacity and reconfigured seating among many others.”

The mall also says that while many retailers will open, not every store will be ready for a June 1 open date. Additionally, dining and attractions will remain closed until state officials offer further guidance on opening safely, and many restaurants will continue to offer curbside pickups delivery options.

After Governor Walz’s announcement and implementation of his Stay Safe, Minnesota order, many Minnesotans and businesses are looking forward to getting back to bits of their normal lives. The Mall of America is North America’s largest shopping center, with over 520 stores and restaurants. They say, “Reopening a building the size of Mall of America is no small task, but we are confident taking the necessary time to reopen will help us create the safest environment possible.”
