On average, someone in the United States dies of cardiovascular disease (CVD), such as a heart attack or stroke, every 34 seconds.[1] This alarming statistic underscores the urgency of addressing heart health, especially as projections indicate that the nation’s financial burden from CVD could nearly triple by 2050 due to an aging and increasingly diverse population, coupled with rising risk factors among younger individuals according to new published projections.[2] The American Heart Association, celebrating 100 years of lifesaving service in 2024, is fighting to change that. Residents of the Twin Cities are invited to join that work through the 2024 Twin Cities Heart Ball.
