Momo Sushi reopened Tuesday, Nov. 3, after being closed for over a year. Momo Sushi closed in 2025 due to damage sustained in a kitchen fire, according to Northeaster.

Damage from the fire was so bad that it formed a hole in the roof of the restaurant. With repairs complete, Momo Sushi is back open for business. At the time of the fire, ownership wrote on Instagram that, due to disagreements with their landlord about repairs, it was unclear if Momo would return in the same location. Luckily for diners in Northeast Minneapolis, the repairs got done.

The restaurant will be open from 11 a.m. to 3p.m. and 4:30-10 p.m. Tuesday-Friday, 12-10 p.m. on Saturdays, and 12-9 p.m. on Sundays. The restaurant is hosting a soft opening on Nov. 3 with no reservations required.

In a post on Instagram, Momo Sushi wrote, “A new chapter, a familiar love, and all the sushi you’ve been missing. Thank you for your patience, loyalty, and incredible support throughout this journey. We can’t wait to serve our amazing community again!”

Momo has yet to receive its liquor license, so those of you looking for a sake to go with your sushi will have to wait.

We were able to check out the first lunch service of the new era of Momo and, though service was a bit slow as the staff got back into the groove of the lunch rush, the food was excellent. Sitting at the sushi bar meant a complimentary seaweed salad, a delightful perk. The chicken gyoza and Burning Tree sushi roll were my lunch picks, and I could hardly stop myself from scarfing all of it down in seconds.

In a note left for guests on their tables, Momo Sushi requested some patience as staff reacclimatizes to the restaurant, but emphasized that they want to make sure they do right by their customers, saying, “No one is immune to the rising costs of doing business, but the Momo Family’s commitment to accessible, high-quality food remains firmly intact.”
