OG Zaza is joining forces with King Coil Spirits to open a new location inside the St. Paul distillery, slated for mid-December. The collaboration brings OG Zaza’s artisan New Haven-style thin-crust pizzas to King Coil’s spacious distillery, offering the perfect pairing of craft spirits and top-quality pizza in the heart of the Midway neighborhood.
Chef Josh Hedquist, a three-time winner of Food Network’s “Guy’s Grocery Games”, is the driving force behind OG Zaza. Known for its unique dough-making process—using a multi-day fermentation method—and commitment to locally sourced ingredients, OG Zaza has already earned rave reviews at its two metro locations.
King Coil Spirits, which opened in late 2023, has quickly made a name for itself with its hand-crafted spirits and specialty cocktails. In 2024 alone, the distillery has won over a dozen international medals, including Best In Class Liqueur at the American Distilling Institute International Spirits Competition and Minnesota Gin Producer of the Year at the New York International Spirits Competition.
“We are extremely excited to team up with OG Zaza,” says King Coil Founder and Lead Distiller Matt Lange in the press release. “Having an excellent operator like Josh take over the food program will ensure that our customers have access to top quality food while allowing us to focus on what we do best: making high-quality, hand-crafted cocktails from our award-winning spirits.”
The partnership also paves the way for unique events, such as pizza-making classes, pairing dinners, and private event offerings. With its expansive venue in the historic Vandalia Tower Complex, the collaboration aims to further elevate the revitalization of St. Paul’s Creative Enterprise Zone and bring fresh energy to the Midway area. OG ZaZa has a location inside Rosedale Center’s POTLUCK Food Hall, and a second location opened in September in Shakopee near Canterbury Park—read our review here.
