A new Twin Cities festival is aimed at highlighting the homes, businesses, theaters, sports venues, and other architectural gems of the area—and the stories behind them. City Stories launches this weekend and combines two existing festivals—the MSP Home Tour and Doors Open Minneapolis—into one week-long party. “The event is designed to showcase the Twin Cities’ built environment while creating new ways for people to engage with the places that shape everyday life,” organizers said in a recent release.

Over the weekend of May 2-3, visitors to the MSP Home Tour can step inside remodeled homes across Minneapolis, St. Paul, and the suburbs to learn the stories behind the projects and connect with the homeowners who’ve transformed their beloved spaces.

Starting on Monday, May 4, dozens of buildings across the Twin Cities open up to guests—including behind-the-scenes areas and venues that are rarely visible to the public. Try a tour at the Federal Reserve Bank of Minneapolis (including a hands-on art workshop); a walking tour of the University of Minnesota’s modern buildings; a stroll through F. Scott Fitzgerald’s St. Paul haunts; or a behind-the-scenes arena adventure at Target Center—including the chance to step onto the court and shoot some hoops.

Over the weekend of May 9-10, parks and businesses around the region host special events to share their own histories. Take a public tour of Utepils Brewing and learn about the story of Bassett Creek; enjoy a guided sauna session at The Yard; or go treasure-hunting at Architectural Antiques’ warehouse.
