What’s Up

Initially conceived as a food truck, Bravi’s Craft Mexican Kitchen opened in 2018 with a focus on “modern street food,” allowing for innovative presentations of traditional items like tacos, carnitas, and platillo dishes. The restaurant redefines the portrayal of Mexican cuisine by highlighting its richness and evolution. Each dish takes a from-scratch, a la carte approach—cooking everything to order—with an emphasis on freshness and quality that reflects a commitment to serving guests like kin. The happy hour deals alone (Monday-Thursday, 3-6 p.m., and all-day Sunday), along with Margarita Mondays and Taco Tuesdays, make the short drive to Shakopee worth it.

Side Dish

Its claim to fame is “bites packed with flavor and love”—but arguably, it’s also their heaping half-pineapple bowl customizable with steak, chicken, or shrimp, bell peppers, onion, jasmine rice, and house-made teriyaki sauce. This masterpiece is not only delicious but also beautifully presented. The al pastor tacos are another standout, with a delightful sweetness that perfectly balances the heat of spicy salsa. The chili lime dry rub chicken wings are juicy and packed with flavor, and the birria tacos are made with slow-roasted shredded beef, fresh cilantro and onion, and served with a crispy shell and delicious consomé. For cocktails, the tajin rim on the mango margarita adds a zesty twist that elevates it to another level.

Where It’s At

Bravi’s outgrew its original location in downtown Shakopee, where the small hole-in-the-wall almost always had a line out the door. Loyal patrons followed Bravi’s to its new space—and expanded kitchen—in June 2023. The food remains rooted in tradition, showcasing authentic flavors and creative twists, alongside a welcoming atmosphere that makes you feel right at home. Located next to Badger Hill Brewing, there’s also a convenient service window for taproom guests. This up-and-coming area, right across from Canterbury Park, is becoming a culinary hot spot with other new retailers, like OG ZaZa and Mr. Pig’s Smokery, also joining the scene—as well as the newly announced Boardwalk Kitchen & Bar.
