Total Healthcare and Physical Medicine

Dr. Joshua Norine, Total Healthcare & Physical MedicineSometimes—despite a person’s best efforts to stay healthy—they’re thrown curve balls. Rather than living with debilitating pain, or becoming reliant on pain medication, specialty clinics such as Total Healthcare & Physical Medicine, PLLC exist to offer treatment without the use of any lasers, narcotics, acupuncture, pills, or surgery. Good candidates include anyone who experiences peripheral neuropathy in their feet, characterized by “numbness, burning, tingling, pins and needles, or sharp/shooting pains,” says Dr. Joshua Norine, owner of the clinic. The problem can start as a funny feeling in your toes, progressing with time to spread to feet, ankles, shins, calves, knees, and thighs.

On staff is Dr. Norine, Dr. Adam Locketz, the medical director of the clinic, a trained medical doctor specializing in physical medicine and rehabilitation, a physician assistant with 37 years of experience, two physical therapists, and a medical assistant.

The 6-12 week program works for just about everyone, even diabetic patients, says Dr. Norine. Oftentimes Medicare with a secondary insurance company covers 100 percent of the cost. The treatment is safe, FDA-cleared, and highly effective. “There are up to 150 medical clinics in the country that offer this program,” says Dr. Norine. “We brought it here to Minnesota. We are the only clinic in the state to do this program full-time.”

In addition to reporting less pain, many patients commonly say they have less tingling, and a return of feeling to their feet, leading to an improvement in sleep, balance, and mobility.

According to one patient, “I was diagnosed with neuropathy five years ago. My feet hurt all the time, sometimes tingling, sometimes throbbing. Within weeks of starting treatment, I could feel a difference … and now my pain level has decreased 90 percent.”

Patients also make appointments for the clinic’s osteoarthritis knee program (bone-on-bone and/or arthritis in the knees), back and neck pain, and shoulder conditions, but the main focus is on treating peripheral neuropathy.  “Everyone deserves an opportunity to improve their quality of life,” says Dr. Norine, whose own mother began struggling with neuropathy 24 years ago in 1990, inspiring his career path. “Most people that have peripheral neuropathy have lost hope. They have accepted that they are the unfortunate ones chosen to live with this condition, and so they modify their life and give up the things they love the most because of their declining health. Now they can try our program and potentially get their life back.”

Chu Vision Institute

Dr. Chu“Today, patients are unwilling to accept poor vision as a natural part of aging,” says Dr. Y. Ralph Chu, founder and medical director of Chu Vision Institute and Chu Surgery Center in Bloomington. Chu says, “They not only want a better visual outcome, but also less dependence on distance and reading glasses. And most people are unaware of just how many options now exist, and continue to evolve, to reduce the need for prescription eyeglasses. The Victus femtosecond laser technology was designed to meet this demand and delivers outstanding visual results and ultimate patient experience in cataract and LASIK procedures.”

Chu Vision Institute is among the first ten sites in the country, and the only site in the Midwest, to offer the Victus femtosecond laser. This innovative laser platform provides significantly improved accuracy, precision and reproducibility in performing some of the critical steps of cataract and LASIK surgery and is approved for both cataract and corneal flap procedures.

“With the Victus platform, we are able to automate some of the steps that we have commonly performed manually,” says Dr. Chu. The Victus platform offers real-time, three-dimensional imaging of the eye to aid in planning and monitoring the operation. “While we have performed thousands of successful LASIK and cataract surgeries, we feel this technology is essential to providing our patients with the best outcomes possible.”

Dr. Chu is a fellowship-trained corneal specialist in cataract, refractive and corneal surgery. He stays on the leading edge of technology through his participation in over 55 clinical evaluations or FDA clinical trials. Three of Dr. Chu’s current projects include working on the next generation glaucoma stent, helping patients reduce or eliminate their need for reading glasses with a corneal inlay and corneal cross-linking for patients with keratoconus or ectasia after refractive surgery.

Dr. Chu serves on numerous editorial boards and on the Board of Governors for the Children’s Theatre Company of MN and he has lectured around the world. At the end of the day, though, it is always about the patients he sees at his Bloomington clinic.

“It’s important to all of us at Chu Vision Institute and Chu Surgery Center that our patients not only have access to the latest technologies but that we provide the education necessary so each of our patients can make an informed decision regarding their eyecare,” says this dedicated eye surgeon. Dr. Chu concludes, “We provide the knowledge, expertise, and options tailored to individual lifestyles to reduce the need for reading glasses and to help improve vision at all distances. We are dedicated to improving the vision of our patients so that they can positively transform their lives.”

Minnesota Disc Institute

Dr. AntoineDr. Jamy Antoine’s patients often seek him out after trying—without success—traditional therapy and treatment for bulging, herniated, or degenerative discs in the neck and lower back. Many have tried adjustments, epidural injections, steroid shots, acupuncture, muscle relaxers, massage, icing, and special stretches, with no long-term relief. They are tired of not being able to sit, stand, or walk without noticing pain or numbness. They want to feel “normal” again, while avoiding surgery if possible.

Dr. Antoine has been in practice for over 11 years, consulting with thousands of patients from around the country.

He listens carefully, sympathizes (several years ago, before he switched gears in his practice—he sought relief for his own severe neck pain, due to six bulging/herniated discs in his neck—with little to no relief), and then educates his patients so they can take control of their health.

“As research shows, the discs in the body can heal, if given the right tools,” he explains.

As a non-surgical disc specialist at the Minnesota Disc Institute, the sole facility in Minnesota providing the advanced, effective, gentle, and safe non-surgical Disc Oscillation Therapy™ for the treatment of damaged discs in the neck or low back, sciatic pain, and numbness or tingling in the arms, hands, legs, or feet, he is fully invested in helping his patients get back to feeling normal again, without drugs, without injections, and without surgery, therapies that often just “mask the pain.”

When the discs are allowed to heal and repair, he says, many patients will gain more long-term pain-free years than they will in the short-term by having surgery. (Although he is quick to point out that there is a time and a place for surgery, too.)

The Disc Oscillation Therapy Program™ works because it gets to the real problem that other treatments miss or fail to address. It creates a new possibility, thinking outside the “standard of care” box.

“We don’t offer just another form of  physical therapy, traditional chiropractic care, or medications and/or shots designed just for pain management” he says,” he says. “Our program is a trademarked disc-care program, using state-of-the-art equipment and patented technology specifically designed to help the disc heal and repair.”

The non-surgical procedure results in a lasting solution without side effects or recovery time, is pain-free, and has an over 95 percent success rate for qualified candidates. It worked for Dr. Antoine’s neck pain, helping him to avoid spinal surgery.  “I’m pain-free today,” Dr. Antoine says.  “And the chances of me having surgery for my past disc problems are non-existent.”

His patients speak highly of their results.

As one patient said, “When I came in, my pain level was at a 10. I could barely walk. After just a few sessions the pain has dropped, I’m more mobile, and things are looking a lot better. I’m so grateful to have found the Minnesota Disc Institute.”

Woodbury Plastic Surgery—David Thao, MD

Dr. WoodburyWhen patients are asked why they continue to choose Dr. David Thao as their plastic surgeon, there are two recurring reasons: skill and compassion.  Since the opening of his cosmetic practice in Minnesota, Dr. David Thao, selected as a “Best Doctor for Women,” has allowed those two guiding forces to grow his practice.

As cosmetic procedures become more readily available, it’s very important to find a board-certified plastic surgeon.  Patients benefit from Dr. Thao’s extensive training and experience, artistic skills set, and sensitive and understanding personality, all factors which lead to a deeper level of trust and respect.  After a consultation, patients feel more comfortable and educated about their options, allowing Dr. Thao to connect their health with making a positive cosmetic change.  This physician-patient synergy helps him to provide truly personalized, customized care in assisting patients to make the best surgical decisions.

Dr. Thao offers his patients state-of-the-art medical technologies and procedures. By using the latest technological advances, Dr. Thao is able to give his patients better results with less down time, allowing patients to quickly return to their daily routines feeling renewed and refreshed.  As a specialist in less-invasive procedures, his practice offers medical technologies for laser facials, laser body contouring, skin complexion analysis, and 3D cosmetic surgery animations.

In his years of service, Dr. Thao has developed a solid rapport with his patients, often exceeding their expectations.  He and his staff understand the delicate, emotional, and physical issues involved with plastic surgery.  They serve people from all walks of life—from overseas, across the country, and here at home in the Twin Cities—and believe in a holistic approach through educating, nurturing, and comforting patients in a safe, professional environment. Patients who want to look as good on the outside as they feel on the inside seek out Dr. Thao for his expertise in eyelid and brow lift surgeries, nose and ear surgeries, facelifts, breast augmentation and lifts, buttock augmentation, fat injections, vaginal rejuvenation, and body contouring such as tummy tuck or liposuction.

Beyond quality care, Dr. Thao is passionately involved with Breast Oasis, a non-profit charitable organization that supports women by collecting, cleaning, and distributing new and gently used bras to women in shelters. There are only a few locations around the country active in the Breast Oasis Initiative; and Dr. David Thao of Woodbury Plastic Surgery is proud to be one of them.

Metro Urology

Specialized care for women is a top priority for our urology practice.

At Metro Urology we are proud that several of our members have been recognized by Minnesota Monthly magazine as “Best Doctors for Women.”

Dr. Steven Siegel was Minnesota’s first urologist to specifically address female urological concerns. Through his active leadership, innovation, and mentorship of colleagues with similar interests, Metro Urology has established the state’s largest group of urologists and urogynecologists who focus specifically on women’s health issues.

Because we are recognized as leaders in urologic treatment for women, our physicians have not only fellowship-trained many young doctors who now practice across the country, we also regularly train established urologists from other practices in and around the Twin Cities area on the very latest treatments and techniques.

“I have dedicated my career to helping women needing specialized urologic care. At Metro Urology, our philosophy is to start with conservative options. We sincerely believe that simple, non-invasive solutions are often the best. For more complicated problems, there is almost always more than one remedy. We work together with our patients so they can make the treatment choice that is exactly right for them. Our practice strives to provide expert, individualized, and compassionate care for female patients with all types of urogynecological conditions.”

Edina Plastic Surgery

Dr. Michael PhilbinAt Edina Plastic Surgery we have been fulfilling patients’ wish lists for more than 35 years:

1. Patients want to see board-certified, award-winning surgeons.

The surgeons at Edina Plastic Surgery are board-certified by the American Board of Plastic Surgery and meet stringent criteria necessary for that certification. Both Dr. Robert Wilke and Dr. Michael Philbin are highly trained and each have over 15 years of experience in the field of plastic surgery. During their careers they have performed thousands of procedures on breasts, bodies, and faces.

Drs. Wilke and Philbin have been named multiple times as “Best Doctors for Women” in Minnesota Monthly magazine.

2. Patients want a clear idea of what they will look like after their surgeries.

The Vectra XT 3D Camera at Edina Plastic Surgery is the only camera of its type that is owned by a private plastic surgery practice in the state of Minnesota. This computer/camera is a truly remarkable visualization tool, creating three-dimensional images of patients’ bodies and faces.

During a free consultation, patients of Edina Plastic Surgery will see images of the virtual results of their breast augmentations and rhinoplasties on their own bodies. The Vectra XT 3D Camera allows the surgeons to simulate every possible size, style or brand of breast implant. This exciting technology gives patients peace of mind knowing exactly what their “after” results will look like, and is only available in the Twin Cities at Edina Plastic Surgery.

Dr. Robert Wilke3. Plastic surgery patients want the convenience of having their procedures done at the practice location instead of driving to an outlying surgery center.

Many plastic surgeons in the Twin Cities area are not able to perform procedures in the medical office building where they are located. At Edina Plastic Surgery, patients appreciate the comfort and convenience of having procedures done in an on-site surgical suite, located in the same building they go to for pre-op and post-op visits.

The state-of-the-art accredited surgical center at Edina Plastic Surgery sets the standard for medical excellence, service, and technological breakthroughs. The practice is also affiliated with accredited hospitals, such as Fairview Southdale, located just across the street.

“I had wanted to have a breast augmentation for a long time and when I left my first appointment at Edina Plastic Surgery I literally cried from happiness and excitement. Using the Vectra 3D camera I was able to see exactly what the suggested implants would look like when placed under the muscle on my own body! I am extremely happy with my final results! For patients looking for unsurpassed expertise and the highest level of technology, Edina Plastic Surgery is the only place to go.”

Andros ENT & Sleep Center

Dr. Inell RosarioGood sleep is a necessity, not a luxury. Even minimal sleep loss can affect your energy, your mood, your efficiency, and how you handle stress.

Dr. Inell Rosario, a practicing otolaryngologist (ear, nose and throat specialist) with 16 years of experience, became board-certified in sleep medicine to provide comprehensive management to patients with sleep apnea and other sleep disorders.

In 2013 she opened Andros ENT & Sleep Center, named after the island in the Bahamas where she grew up. Dr. Rosario says she is “genuinely honored” every day to have the opportunity to care for her patients, evaluate their ENT and/or sleep disorders, and help them get a good night’s rest.

In addition to evaluating on-site sleep studies, she dispenses CPAP machines when necessary. Pediatric patients are seen for ear infections, sleep apnea, and tonsils and adenoid problems. Same-day scans can be done on-site with a low dose radiation CT scanner. Balloon Sinuplasty surgery, repair of torn earlobes, keloids, skin growths, and scars are performed in-office. A full line of hearing aids is also available.

This dedicated doctor treats patients with the “same attention and respect” that she would give a family member, her concern evident in regular follow up phone calls—just one of the many ways Dr. Rosario delivers superior value and patient care.

North Metro Dermatology

Dr. Rahil, North Metro DermatologySuccessful treatment of a skin condition can do wonders for a person’s confidence and self-esteem. Dermatologists are often the “front line” for those who suffer from skin diseases and those who seek treatments for cosmetic concerns. The hard-working staff at North Metro Dermatology (NMD) recognizes this, and goes above and beyond to make patients feel comfortable and welcome in their North Oaks office.

This commitment to compassionate care is evident in how board-certified dermatologists Drs. Anudeep Rahil and Sherri Long—both selected as “Best Doctors for Women”—don’t treat their patients as “just a number.”

“I love talking with and caring for my patients,” says Dr. Long, named one of “America’s Top Dermatologists” in 2012 by the Consumers’ Research Council of America.  “I never tire of helping my patients get well.”

Dr. Rahil fulfilled a long-time dream of hers—to open her own dermatology practice—when she opened NMD in 2013. She brought her talented colleague Dr. Long on board (with 25 years of experience in the field), along with experienced licensed esthetician Natalie Germar.

“I have been fortunate to have worked in different dermatology settings throughout the years. From each experience, I have learned a great deal and become a better dermatologist,” comments Dr. Rahil.

Dr. Long, North Metro DermatologyBoth Drs. Rahil and Long have extensive experience in diagnosing and treating a wide variety of skin diseases including acne, rosacea, eczema, psoriasis, and skin cancers, in addition to performing minor surgical procedures.  Cosmetic procedures  (including Botox, Juvederm, and laser procedures) are available to men and women of all ages. At NMD, Botox and dermal filler injections are performed only by the dermatologists. When customizing treatment plans, patients are thoroughly educated about the cosmetic procedures.

Dr. Rahil is thrilled to be part of the North Oaks community, and is confident that NMD can make a significant difference in patients’ health and skin care needs.

Minnesota Gynecology & Aesthetics

Minnesota GynocologyThis is not your mother’s gynecologist.  Minnesota Gynecology and Aesthetics (MNGA), located in Wayzata, is unique in that it focuses exclusively on gynecological care, allowing board-certified gynecologist and cosmetic surgeon Dr. Lisa Erhard to focus her attention on helping women feel empowered, youthful, and energized, whether it’s an adolescent’s first gynecologic exam, a patient discussing menopause, aesthetic laser skin treatments, or vaginal rejuvenation procedures.

No question is too embarrassing; no topic is off-limits for Dr. Erhard. She believes sex should be enjoyable, a woman’s menstrual cycle (or lack thereof) should not take over her life, and women deserve to look and feel their best. At MNGA, personalized care nurtures a woman’s mind, body and spirit.

“We understand the powerful connection between health, beauty, and intimacy,” says Dr. Erhard. When one piece of the puzzle is lacking, everything can be off-balance.

Unique procedures include vaginal rejuvenation (a one-hour outpatient procedure that corrects vaginal weakness and stretching due to childbirth, aging, or genetics that can result in better bladder control, enhanced sexual gratification, and improved self-esteem), and G-spot augmentation, a revolutionary new procedure that may heighten and intensify a woman’s sexual experience. Another popular option is bioidentical hormone analysis for menopausal women, derived from natural plant sources similar to those produced by the body (rather than synthetic hormones). Just as no two women are the same, their hormone levels are also different, warranting customized prescriptions.

The mission at MNGA is to provide women with the knowledge they need and alternatives they want for beautiful, natural-looking results.

Southdale Ob Gyn Consultants

Southdale Ob Gyn ConsultantsThis is not your mother’s gynecologist.
