End of a Critical Chapter in MN Restaurants: D’Amico To Close for Good

Richard and Larry D’Amico changed our food scene; now focusing on Florida

After March 28, there will be no D’Amico presence in Minnesota. It’s hard to imagine, really, although it was predictable when Richard and Larry D’Amico decided not to sign a new lease at Cafe & Bar Lurcat late last year. Now their fast-casual D’Amico & Sons will close its locations in Edina and Golden Valley, effective March 28, 2026.

The crowning achievement of their time here was the 1987 opening of D’Amico Cucina, where Isaac Becker, Tim McKee, Josh Thomas, Jay Sparks, Joan Ferris, Doug Flickr, Joan Ida, and countless other chefs trained. At one point, D’Amico owned Masa on Nicollet Mall and Cafe Lurcat and Bar Lurcat in Minneapolis, Campiello in Eden Prairie, and at peak, 12 D’Amico & Sons outlets. But Florida called, and Campiello Naples and The Continental Naples will be the D’Amico’s focus now.

The first D’Amico & Sons opened in 1994 on Hennepin Avenue in Uptown. The Golden Valley and Edina locations have been operating for about three decades; a spokesperson tells us they will not renew their leases.

Partner Paul Smith joined the company in 1986, and Smith will operate D’Amico Hospitality—the catering arm which has a number of exclusive venues and special event services.
